Rehabilitation of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur

The methods of rehabilitation training for intertrochanteric fracture of femur include early rehabilitation, medium-term rehabilitation and final rehabilitation.
1. Early rehabilitation: Rehabilitation training can be carried out in the early postoperative period, and patients are instructed to carry out functional exercise of quadriceps muscle and gastrocnemius muscle. Lie flat on the bed, tense the ankle joint, straighten the affected limb, lift the thigh upward, and hold on for 10S after each lift. Gastrocnemius muscle functional exercise: assist the patient to stand beside the bed or with the help of instruments, do tiptoe movement, and repeatedly tiptoe down.
2. Medium-term rehabilitation; after 1 week of rehabilitation training, if the patient does not feel any pain in the limb, he/she can carry out the exercises of straight leg lifting, side leg lifting and back leg lifting in turn. Instruct the patients to perform knee flexion and extension exercises, ask them to take a sitting position, hang down their legs, then straighten them and hold them with their hands, so on and so forth, and at the same time, perform hip joint activity exercises.
3. Terminal rehabilitation: at the end of the period, instruct the patient to strengthen the muscle strength training, ask him to take the lying position, straighten both lower limbs, the affected limb flexion and straight leg elevation, flexion and extension of the knee under the hip flexion position. After review, patients with good healing can start weight-bearing walking, assess the patient’s fracture recovery, and adjust the training program.
Patients with intertrochanteric fractures are advised to train under the guidance of a doctor or therapist, and should not train on their own to prevent re-injury.
