The efficacy of Boneset is to invigorate blood circulation and renew injuries, tonify the kidney and strengthen the bones. It can be taken as a decoction in soup, or orally in pills or powder. Boneset is the rhizome of the plant Quercus fern, family Quercaceae, which is bitter in taste, warm in nature, and belongs to the liver and kidney meridians. It has the effects of activating blood circulation to renew injuries, tonifying the kidneys and strengthening the bones, and it can be used to treat bruises or traumas, musculoskeletal injuries, stagnation, swelling and pain, kidney deficiency, lumbago, weakness of the feet, tinnitus, deafness, toothache, and prolonged ejaculation, and other conditions. Large doses of decoction of this product will lead to poisoning, mainly manifested as dry mouth, talkative, feeling of fear, palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic) chest tightness, followed by trance, gibberish and so on. It should not be used by those with yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin essence in the body and hyperactive deficiency fire) and those with no blood stasis or blood deficiency and fire, not used by those with blazing yang-heat, not used by those with blood deficiency and wind dryness, used with caution by those with blood deficiency and no blood stasis and not used by those with allergic constitution.
