How long it takes to return to normal after breast cancer surgery

It is impossible to generalize how long it takes for patients to recover to normal after breast cancer surgery, but a case-by-case analysis is needed. Early-stage breast cancer is clinically better treated by surgery, which can shorten the time of chemotherapy after surgery, and patients can recover faster. Early stage breast cancer patients are recommended to undergo surgery in a timely manner, and they can basically recover to normal in 6-8 months after surgery. If the patient’s condition is more serious or has progressed to middle or late stage of breast cancer, the recovery time after surgery is relatively longer, and radiotherapy, chemotherapy or endocrine therapy is required after surgery, and the course of treatment may take about 8-12 months, and the exact recovery time cannot be determined. Therefore, breast cancer patients should be seen in time and if they meet the indications for surgery, they should be operated early to improve the success rate of surgery as well as the quality of survival. In addition, breast cancer patients should pay attention to keep the incision dry and change the medication regularly after surgery to prevent infection, which is detrimental to wound healing. Also, regular follow-up examinations are needed after surgery to understand the recovery and whether there is recurrence and distant metastasis.
