How to tell if an inflamed tonsil is a bacterial or viral infection

Tonsillitis can be distinguished from bacterial or viral infection by routine blood test, indirect laryngoscopy, and pharyngeal secretion test. 1. Bacterial tonsillitis, indirect laryngoscopy will find that the tonsils are congested, red and swollen, and there will be a large amount of purulent secretion covering the severely infected tonsils; routine blood tests will find that the total number of leukocytes is elevated, and the neutrophils are elevated, etc.; secretion tests can find the presence of pathogenic bacteria. 2. Viral tonsillitis, indirect laryngoscopy will find that the tonsils are congested, red and swollen, there will be scattered blisters or ulcers on the surface, there will be a small amount of yellowish-white secretion attached; through routine blood tests will find that the total number of leukocytes is normal or slightly elevated, the phenomenon of elevated lymphocytes; secretion test can be found in the presence of viruses. Patients with tonsillitis should go to the ENT department for active medical treatment and standardized medication and treatment after a clear diagnosis.
