Symptoms of hypoglycemia are manifested in two main areas, namely autonomic hypoglycemia symptoms and cerebral neuronal hypoglycemia symptoms. There is individual variability in hypoglycemic symptoms. 1. Autonomic hypoglycemic symptoms: including tremor, palpitations and anxiety, as well as sweating, hunger and sensory abnormalities. 2. Cerebral neuronal hypoglycemic symptoms: These include cognitive impairment, behavioral changes, psychomotor abnormalities, as well as seizures and coma at lower blood glucose levels. Although severe and prolonged hypoglycemia can lead to brain death in unrecognized diabetic patients, the vast majority of hypoglycemic episodes can be reversed when glucose levels are brought up to normal, and rare lethal episodes are usually thought to be the result of hypoglycemia-induced ventricular arrhythmias. Recurrent hypoglycemia, especially unexplained hypoglycemia, requires medical evaluation.
