Is neurogenic cervical spondylosis serious in the later stages of the disease?

Neurogenic cervical spondylosis is a more serious condition if it develops in the later stages. Its seriousness is mainly reflected in the fact that it may cause serious damage to the nerve roots and may complicate the patient with mixed cervical spondylosis. The specific consequences are as follows.
1. Destruction of nerve roots: In the process of long-term disease, the patient will continue to cause pressure on the relevant nerve roots. Degeneration or even necrosis of the relevant structures gradually occurs at the place of compression. Such pathological changes are irreversible. Once the lesion accumulates to a certain level, it may cause extensive nerve dysfunction, such as paralysis of the limbs.
2. Complicated mixed cervical spondylosis: During the onset of the disease in this group of patients, if not properly treated, it can lead to further aggravation of the degeneration of the cervical spine. This pathologic change does not only cause one type of cervical spondylosis. In the later stages of the disease, it may be accompanied by other types of cervical spondylosis, vertebral artery cervical spondylosis, sympathetic cervical spondylosis, and so on.
Since the disease can cause these serious consequences in the later stages, it is important for patients to go to an orthopedic surgeon in a timely manner and cooperate with the doctor for treatment as soon as possible after the disease is detected.
