You can get tetanus after a minor scratch from a rusty iron.
Clostridium tetani is a kind of anaerobic Clostridium difficile, which causes disease through the secretion of tetanus spasmodic toxin after infection. The most suitable environment for Clostridium tetani to survive is the anoxic environment at 37℃, and its spores have a strong ability to survive for 10 years in the soil.
Cause human infection Clostridium tetani mainly from containing tetanus spores of human, animal feces, soil, mainly through skin wounds, such wounds are usually deep and narrow, ischemic and hypoxic wounds.
Rusty iron slightly scraped, the wound is usually shallow and exposed, generally aerobic environment, and is not suitable for the survival of Clostridium tetani, so the risk of infection is lower, but not absolutely will not suffer from tetanus, and therefore the rusty iron slightly scraped may still get tetanus.
Even though the risk of tetanus is low after being scratched by rusty iron, it is recommended to consult a doctor promptly to clean and disinfect the wound, and decide whether to give tetanus antitoxin injection depending on the situation to avoid serious consequences.
