No more dulcolax for cancer pain patients

This is a question that is considered simple and outdated by the profession, so why is it brought up? Because many patients and families are not aware of it. In outpatient clinics there are often inquiries and requests for dulcolax from patients or families, and a lot of time and energy is wasted by outpatient doctors to explain such issues. Sometimes it is also misunderstood that doctors deliberately do not give it. Therefore, I think it is necessary to make use of the media to popularize such scientific knowledge among the public. During the history of tumor treatment in our country, dulcolax was used for a long time for patients with advanced cancer pain. During that time, other treatment means were extremely single, chemotherapy did not have the current drugs, adjuvant drugs were very few, treatment efficiency was low, radiotherapy did not have the present equipment, and surgery also used to cut large as a high technical standard, patients had a poor prognosis and soon entered into palliative pain treatment. A large number of patients used Dulcolax, which has the lingering influence of Dulcolax in the population today. In 1996, China implemented the principles of oral administration, non-invasive administration, and timely administration according to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the treatment of cancer pain. At the same time, it was pointed out that dulcolax was prohibited and used with caution. The commonly used drugs are morphine preparations (tablets and injections) and fentanyl patches. Doctors will adopt effective, convenient and less side effects drugs and methods to relieve patients’ pain according to their different conditions. Morphine, especially the oral tablets, is easy to use. The pain relief effect is good, the action time is long and the side effects are controllable, while the action time of Dulcolax is short and the side effects of long-term use are large, especially the neurological toxicity, so at present the clinical use is mainly for acute pain such as: angina pectoris, post-operative pain and other time use. In the past, it was really painful for patients to use Dulcolax in clinical practice, and they often heard the moaning sound of pain during night shift. Today, we have a better understanding of cancer pain and abandon the past methods. The era of dulcolax for cancer pain has long become history, and the new principles and drugs will surely make a greater contribution to the pain-free life of cancer patients.
