What’s wrong with reflux cough?

GERD cough refers to a cough caused by acid reflux into the esophagus irritating the throat, usually accompanied by heartburn, belching, and acid reflux. The common cause is relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which leads to acid reflux. Binge drinking and overeating can increase the relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter. Patients with GERD should be judged by a doctor to determine the condition and cause of the disease, and should not self-diagnose or use medication. Doctors usually give medications to suppress stomach acid or promote gastric motility to reduce GERD cough symptoms.
