Treatment of small amounts of fluid in the lungs

A small amount of fluid in the lungs may be a symptom of pleurisy or pulmonary effusion, and the treatment depends on the individual’s condition and cause. In the case of tuberculous pleurisy with fluid accumulation, treatment by puncture and extraction is required, as well as anti-tuberculosis treatment, and the fluid is extracted and then the medication is taken on a regular basis for more than six months as prescribed by the doctor. If the effusion is caused by a bacterial infection, anti-infective treatment is required. If the infection is viral, it can be treated with intravenous ribavirin and other drugs. In the case of a large amount of pleural effusion, thoracentesis and aspiration treatment is required to avoid compression of the lungs.
