Duodenal bulge is considered as polyp, the cancer rate depends on the pathologic type of polyp and the diameter of the polyp, there is no clear value, generally the chance of cancer is low.
1. Pathological type: duodenal polyps can be divided into adenomatous polyps, hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps and malignant tumors in terms of pathological typing, among which hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps and malignant tumors are benign lesions, and malignant transformation rarely occurs, while adenomatous polyps have greater chance of cancer than the other pathological types.
2. Diameter of polyp: Generally speaking, multiple polyps with diameter <5mm can be considered as hyperplastic polyps, which are seldom cancerous; when the polyp is single and the diameter is larger than 1cm, the chance of malignant transformation is larger than other types of polyps, and it is generally recommended to remove and send to the examination under the endoscopy, so as to exclude malignant transformation possibility.
Duodenal lesions are less likely to be malignant, and after eliminating risk factors, they can be followed up regularly or treated surgically according to the patient’s needs.
