The magnitude of virulence of the new crown strain XE is not clearly stated at this time.
The new crown strain XE is a mixture of two now familiar strains of omicron (BA.1 and BA.2), known as a recombinant variant. To date, there is insufficient evidence to conclude its infectiousness and severity, so the virulence level of XE cannot be determined. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that XE is about 10% more transmissible than BA.2, although this figure needs to be further confirmed.
Recombinant variants of novel coronaviruses are not uncommon and several have been identified during pandemics, such as XD and XF, most of which die out relatively quickly.
It is recommended to take personal protection by wearing masks when going out, minimizing visits to crowded places, washing hands frequently, and keeping up to date with the new coronavirus vaccine.
