Watermelon is a cool food in Chinese medicine theory.
Watermelon is sweet in flavor, cold in nature, and belongs to the heart, stomach and bladder meridians. It has the functions of clearing heat and removing vexation, relieving summer heat and generating fluids as well as diuretic. It can be used for thirst and irritation caused by summer heat (irritability and sultriness), short and red urine (small amount of urine, dark yellow color); it can also be used for edema, urinary incontinence (urinary incontinence); it can also be used for mouth sores caused by inflammation of the heart fire, and so on.
In addition, watermelon is rich in glucose, amino acids, vitamins and potassium, etc. Moderate consumption of watermelon has a preventive health care effect to prevent heatstroke, replenish nutrients, relieve fatigue and promote gastrointestinal tract peristalsis.
Watermelon is suitable for most people, but because of its cold nature and contains a lot of sugar, so the spleen and stomach cold people, diabetics or renal insufficiency should not eat too much watermelon; and watermelon should not be chilled to eat, should not be eaten before or after meals to avoid dilution of gastric juice and affect digestion and absorption.
