Acupuncture points commonly used for lactation promotion include danzhong point and breast root point.
Tanzhong is located in the chest, horizontally across the 4th intercostal space, on the anterior midline. It can be used for coughing, asthma, chest tightness, heart pain, choking, hiccups, postpartum milk shortage, breast carbuncle (red, swollen and painful breasts, poor milk discharge, and ultimately a suppurative disease), breast fetish (painful lumps in the breasts, closely related to the menstrual cycle and changes in emotions and moods, equivalent to the mammary gland hyperplasia), and so on.
Breast Root is located in the chest, at the 5th intercostal space, 4 inches away from the anterior midline. It can regulate Qi and broaden the chest, and pass menstruation to lower the breast. It is mainly used for treating breast carbuncle, breast fetish, breast lessening, cough, asthma, eructation and chest pain.
Shaoshe acupoint is located on the ulnar side of the last joint of the little finger, 0.1 inch above the corner of the nail root. It can open the orifices and soothe the syncope, clear the heart and diarrhea heat, and pass and regulate breast milk. It is mainly used for treating carbuncle, breast milk shortage, coma, fever, headache, cataract, sore throat.
