How to Test Yourself for Epiphyseal Closure at Home

Usually, it is not possible to measure the closure of the epiphyses at home, and it is necessary to go to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis by means of radiographic imaging. Epiphyses are unique to the pediatric population and are located at the distal ends of long bones, such as the distal radius and femur. The epiphyseal structures are usually present before the bones are well developed and need to be visualized by radiography. A linear translucent image of the distal long bone may be present until the epiphysis has closed, and if the epiphysis has closed, the localized translucent image usually disappears. In addition, it is recommended to pay attention to regular medical checkups during the growth period, and if the epiphysis closes prematurely, it needs to be treated as soon as possible to avoid stunted growth.
