Cranial traction, mainly for patients with cervical spine fracture with spinal cord injury, is aimed to be completed within 2-5 hours after hospitalization. It is performed as follows: firstly, Crutchfield tong’s cranial traction forceps are applied, which are fixed to the skull on the top of the head, and then a certain amount of traction weight is applied, starting from 4 kg and increasing by 2 kg every 10 minutes, up to 20 Kg. The head of the bed is also elevated by 10-20 cm, and the patient’s weight is borrowed to perform the reverse traction. After the reset is confirmed by X-ray, if surgery is not required, it is maintained at 5-8kg for 1-2 weeks, and then the fibers are changed to other support constraints, such as cervical braces and cervicothoracic braces for 3 months of immobilization.
