Normal fetal position generally refers to the cephalic position. Fetal position is broadly categorized into cephalic, breech and transverse positions. Cephalic position means that the head of the fetus is facing downwards towards the mother’s pelvis is the normal fetal position. Breech position means that the baby’s buttocks are facing downward toward the mother’s pelvis; transverse position means that the baby’s shoulders are facing downward toward the mother’s pelvis. Transverse position does not allow for a normal delivery and requires a cesarean section, and most of the breech positions also do not allow for a normal delivery also require a cesarean section because there are certain dangers associated with breech delivery. Sometimes after the fetus’ buttocks come out, the head will get stuck in the pelvis and can’t come down, increasing the possibility of fetal distress and fetal hypoxia. If you find that the fetus is not in the right position during your checkup, we recommend that you consult a doctor in time to have a professional doctor choose the right way to deliver your baby.
