What is Varicose Vein Sclerotherapy all about

Varicose vein sclerotherapy is a conservative treatment for varicose veins and is an interventional treatment with the following main steps. 1. The patient mostly takes the supine position, and the varicose veins are localized under the guidance of ultrasound, and disinfected and toweled at the localization site. 2. Local anesthesia is applied to the puncture site, and then sclerosing agent is injected into the varicose vein that is emptied of blood, causing local aseptic inflammation and adhesion, which leads to the occlusion of the venous vessels. 3. After injecting the sclerosing agent, the lower limbs should be locally bandaged with gauze rolls for compression, and elastic bandages or elastic stockings should be wrapped from the ankles to the injection site. Care should be taken to avoid tissue necrosis, inflammation, and complication of embolism or thrombosis due to sclerosing agent leakage. Varicose vein sclerotherapy may complement surgical treatment.
