Is it better to take acyclovir tablets or ribavirin for chickenpox?

Acyclovir is better for chickenpox. Ribavirin, although also an antiviral drug, is not the drug of choice for the treatment of chickenpox. Chickenpox is an acute infectious disease caused by varicella-zoster virus infection. It is clinically characterized by the simultaneous or sequential appearance of a macular rash, papules, herpes, and crusts. Patients with varicella are the source of infection for this disease. Chickenpox is a self-limiting disease, and general and symptomatic treatment is the mainstay if no complications exist. Patients should be treated in isolation, care should be strengthened, patients should be prevented from scratching the affected area for secondary infection, and indoor ventilation should be strengthened. Antiviral drugs should be administered as early as possible, with acyclovir preferred, usually within 48 hours of the appearance of the rash, orally in mild cases and intravenously in severe cases. Chickenpox should be treated promptly and in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, and should not be used arbitrarily.
