How to treat alcoholic liver

Alcoholic liver disease is a disease of the liver caused by heavy alcohol consumption. It mainly includes mainly alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic liver fibrosis and liver cirrhosis, which can progress to liver cancer. The prevalence of alcoholic liver disease among adults in some parts of China is 4%-6%. Abstinence from alcohol is the most important measure to treat patients with alcoholic liver disease. Abstinence from alcohol significantly improves survival at all stages of the disease and can reduce portal vein pressure and slow the progression to cirrhosis. Patients should be counseled to stop drinking early. In addition to abstinence from alcohol, other treatment options are as follows: 1. Nutritional support: Because chronic alcoholism can lead to malnutrition, a high-calorie, high-protein, low-fat diet with multivitamin supplements (such as vitamins B, C, K and folic acid) should be given on top of abstinence from alcohol. 2.Medication: polyenophosphatidylcholine can reduce hepatocyte steatosis and its accompanying inflammation and fibrosis. Metadoxine can accelerate the metabolism of ethanol and improve the symptoms and behavioral abnormalities of alcoholism. Glucocorticoids can relieve symptoms and improve biochemical indices in severe alcoholic hepatitis. N-acetylcysteine has an oxidizing effect. Other drugs such as S-adenosylmethionine and glycopyrrolate preparations are effective. Sedatives can also be considered for patients with severe alcohol withdrawal. 3.Liver transplantation: Patients with severe alcoholic cirrhosis can be considered for liver transplantation, which requires 3-6 months of abstinence from alcohol before liver transplantation and no serious alcoholic damage to other organs. Alcoholic fatty liver generally has a good prognosis, and alcoholic hepatitis can also be recovered if timely treatment and abstinence from alcohol are provided. Therefore, active abstinence from alcohol and cooperation with doctors is the most crucial.
