If a breastfeeding woman has a sore throat and is diagnosed with wind-heat attack, she can take honeysuckle as prescribed by her doctor.
Honeysuckle is a traditional Chinese medicine with the effect of clearing heat and removing toxins as well as evacuating wind-heat, sweet in flavor and cold in nature, and belongs to the lung meridian, the heart meridian and the stomach meridian. It is mainly used in the treatment of fever, sore throat, carbuncles and swellings (localized swelling caused by the congestion of qi and blood trapped by evil poisons), pediatric fever sores, and feverish dysentery (dysentery caused by feeling heat and poison, with blood in the stool), among other conditions.
Allergy to honeysuckle is prohibited. Allergic persons should be cautious in using honeysuckle. At present, there is no adverse drug reaction after using honeysuckle. It is contraindicated for people with deficiency of spleen and stomach, coldness and qi deficiency sores (skin diseases caused by internal invasion of poisonous evils, resulting in stagnation of qi and blood) and pus clearing.
Nursing women can take honeysuckle as prescribed by the doctor when they feel wind-heat and experience symptoms such as sore throat. But the single honeysuckle treatment effect is limited, such as after the use of drugs did not see relief, need to follow the doctor’s advice with other drugs for treatment.
