The essence of laryngeal leukoplakia is a class of intraepithelial tumors in the pre-infiltrative stage. Although morphologically benign, they are more malignant than normal tissue and are a common precancerous lesion in laryngology. Although timely surgical intervention and close follow-up can be given clinically, some of them eventually progress to laryngeal malignancy. A systematic review by foreign scholars found that 42 out of 1388 cases of mild atypical laryngeal hyperplasia transformed into laryngeal cancer (transformation rate of 3.7%), 83 out of 824 cases of moderate atypical laryngeal hyperplasia transformed into laryngeal cancer (transformation rate of 10.1%), and 56 out of 310 cases of severe atypical laryngeal hyperplasia transformed into laryngeal cancer (transformation rate of 18.1%). Early detection and appropriate treatment are the keys to obtaining the best prognosis of laryngeal leukoplakia and improving the quality of patient survival. However, unfortunately, surgery, as the main treatment for laryngeal leukoplakia at present, does not reverse the trend of disease recurrence and carcinoma, and even some patients repeatedly undergo blind surgery with shorter and shorter recurrence time and faster and faster carcinoma time, which is exceptionally painful. Therefore, on the basis of surgical biopsy to clarify the pathology of laryngeal leukoplakia, patients are suggested to choose Chinese medicine to treat laryngeal leukoplakia. According to the theory of Chinese medicine, we propose that the TCM pathogenesis of laryngeal leukoplakia is dominated by phlegm and stasis, and we have achieved satisfactory results in the clinical treatment of laryngeal leukoplakia, and several reports and insights have been published [3-5].
