The liver is located in the right upper abdomen under the diaphragm, with most of it located under the right diaphragm and a small portion under the left diaphragm. The highest point is the intersection of the right midclavicular line with the fifth rib, and the lowest point is the intersection of the right midaxillary line with the tenth rib at 1.5 cm below. The liver has two sides, the diaphragmatic side and the dirty side, and has four margins, anterior, posterior, left and right. The morphology of the liver is relatively variable and each lobe can be enlarged or reduced, especially the left lobe, some of which can be very long and can extend to the left to reach the front of the spleen; others can be small or even absent. The liver is usually most commonly examined by ultrasound. If there is an occupancy, further CT and MRI examinations are needed.
