What is the long line-like t2 signal seen in the left supraspinatus tendon?

A linear long t2 signal is seen within the left supraspinatus tendon indicating an old left rotator cuff injury. Rotator cuff injuries include rotator cuff tears and rotator cuff degeneration. Coronal T2-weighted images of the shoulder can effectively show rotator cuff disease. As with tendons in other parts of the body, the normal supraspinatus muscle remains low signal on the pulse train. T2-weighted images of the rotator cuff after a rotator cuff tear can show increased signal, indicating the presence of fluid within the tendon. This signal can traverse the entire tendon, suggesting a full tendon rupture. In addition, in some of the older ruptures, continuous rotator cuff fibers can be seen along the synovial bursa and articular surface. Fluid may be found in the synovial bursa at the subacromial deltoid. If any of these findings are present, it is recommended to seek prompt medical attention and improve relevant investigations for targeted management.
