What’s wrong with the baby’s little forked tongue?

Bifurcation of the tongue in infants is caused by the short tongue tie. Because of the short tongue tie, when the tongue extends outward, it is easily pulled by the tongue tie and results in bifurcation, i.e., a W shape. When detected, tongue tie plasty can be performed as early as possible, and most advocate that minor surgery can be performed around 6 months of age because the tongue tie is mucosal at this age, with few blood vessels, and there is little bleeding during excision, and the surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis with little risk. With age, muscle tissue proliferation, thickening of the tongue tie, bleeding is more, the risk factor is relatively increased, and when the baby is in the stage of learning to speak, because the tongue tie is too short, it will affect the sound of the upward consonant, thus affecting the baby’s speech.
