Posterior tilting of the uterus means that the uterus is tilted toward the posterior rectum, the longitudinal axis of the uterus remains unchanged, and the whole uterus is tilted toward the posterior, so that the cervix is in an upturned position.
The uterus is located in the middle of the pelvis, with the bladder in front and the rectum in the back, and the uterus is divided into anterior, median, and posterior positions in the pelvis. Uterine retroversion refers to the uterus tilting toward the posterior rectum, with the longitudinal axis of the uterus remaining unchanged, and the whole uterus tilting toward the posterior, so that the cervix is in an upturned state.
Clinically, anterior tilt and anterior flexion of the uterus is more common, and posterior tilt of the uterus is less common. If it is simply a change in position due to the pulling of the uterine ligaments, the posterior tilt of the uterus usually does not have an adverse effect on the woman.
If a woman’s uterus is posteriorly tilted due to adenomyosis, pelvic endometriosis, there may be dysmenorrhea, increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period and other symptoms, and in severe cases, infertility may be triggered, which is considered abnormal in this case.
Patients are advised to go to the hospital for timely examination to determine whether the position of the uterus is of normal form.
