Approximate life expectancy in the decompensated stage of cirrhosis

The life expectancy of cirrhosis in decompensated stage cannot be generalized, the specific survival time is related to many factors, the life expectancy of most of the patients is generally concentrated in about 5~10 years, and it is not excluded that there are some individual patients whose life expectancy is less than 5 years or more than 10 years. Cirrhosis uncompensated stage is due to diffuse liver damage caused by various etiologic factors, and as the disease progresses, it exceeds the compensatory capacity of liver function. As the decompensated stage of cirrhosis is an irreversible disease, other complications such as infections, hepatic encephalopathy, upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hepatorenal syndrome, etc. can occur. If the patient develops severe complications, it has a greater impact on the patient’s life expectancy. If the patient does not have complications and the treatment is more timely and the patient is in better health, this condition has less impact on life expectancy. It is recommended that patients actively undergo treatment and face the disease with a positive and optimistic mindset in order to prolong the survival time.
