Generally, superficial gastritis does not require biopsy, but if mucosal leukoplakia or mucosal erosion is present, biopsy is recommended to clarify the nature of the lesion.
Submucosal biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of superficial gastritis. If lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration is seen, the diagnosis of superficial gastritis can be confirmed, and according to the depth of infiltration, the degree of superficial gastritis can be differentiated, such as mild, moderate and severe.
If there are white spots, thinning of mucosa, erosion and bleeding during endoscopy, biopsy is recommended to clarify the nature of gastritis and prevent cancer, but if there is only congestion and edema of gastric mucosa, biopsy is usually not needed.
Superficial gastritis is a mild disease, usually need to be treated when there is gastric distension, indigestion and other symptoms, such as omeprazole, thioglycollate, etc., the specific circumstances should follow the doctor’s advice.
