Cough variant asthma is a specific type of bronchial asthma with chronic cough as the only or main clinical manifestation. It presents as a persistent cough that can last for months to years. 1. Unexplained cough lasting >3 weeks. 2. Physical examination and chest x-ray are normal. 3. Positive bronchial excitation test. 4. Effective treatment with inhaled hormones and wheezing. 5. Other diseases causing chronic cough should be excluded. 2. Postnasal drip syndrome. 3. Cough due to gastroesophageal reflux. 4. Eosinophilic bronchitis. The treatment of cough variant asthma is the same as that of common bronchial asthma.
