Diabetes Fellowship Event

2011 is the third year of the IDF’s five-year plan (2009-2013) to adopt “Diabetes Education and Prevention” as the theme of World Diabetes Day, and a milestone year for the 300 million people living with diabetes worldwide. The Day is a milestone year for the 300 million people living with diabetes worldwide. It is a day for all countries in the world to strengthen education, prevention and monitoring of diabetes, to raise awareness of diabetes, to care more about the work and lives of people with diabetes, and to strengthen research on preventive measures and treatments for diabetes in order to better serve human health. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has announced the slogan for World Diabetes Day 2011: Take Action on Diabetes Now! In September, the United Nations will hold its first global summit on non-communicable diseases. World Diabetes Day, November 14, will be an important platform for implementing and showcasing the outcomes of this meeting, which will bring together heads of government from around the world to consult and coordinate action on key issues in the fight against NCDs, including diabetes. At the same time, World Diabetes Day will inspire and motivate the global diabetes workforce to continue to engage in the fight against diabetes and will provide a good foundation for the IDF World Diabetes Conference in Dubai in December. World Diabetes Day 2011 will highlight five key messages: Diabetes is deadly: it kills one person every eight seconds and kills 4 million people every year Diabetes is “all things to all people”: no matter what age, no matter what wealth, no matter what country Diabetes can no longer be ignored: it kills 4 million people every year, 1 million amputees, and millions of people with financial income. Treating diabetes and saving lives is a right for all, not a privilege for some: education, medicine, technology. Choose health: demand healthy food and environment, exercise, good diet. Everyone has something to contribute.
