The method of taking Chongyang is that the operator can slide his thumb upward between the second and third toes of the patient’s foot, and when the gap between the bones disappears, the high bones on the dorsum of the foot, where the blood vessels pulsate, is where this point is located.
Chongyang point is the original point of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, on the dorsal meridian of the foot where the stomach meridian circulates, located at the highest point on the back of the foot, where the dorsal artery pulsates. It is specifically positioned at the base of the 2nd metatarsal bone and the middle cuneiform bone joint, where the arterial pulsation can be touched on the surface of the skin.
Chong Yang point has the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach, calming fright and tranquilizing the mind, which can improve the pain and bloating of the stomach itself, as well as facial disorders such as lopsidedness of the mouth and eyes, swollen gums, and swelling and pain of the face that the stomach meridian passes through, and the proximal therapeutic effect is to improve the symptoms of impotence and weakness of the foot, and redness and swelling of the dorsum of the foot.
Avoid arteries when needling this point. If treatment is needed, it should be done in a regular hospital under the operation of a Chinese medicine practitioner or acupuncturist.
