Efficacy, effects and contraindications of sumac

According to National Compendium of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Sumac has the effects of clearing heat and removing toxins, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain, and is often used in the treatment of various kinds of hepatitis. Its contraindications are not yet clear.
Sumac is the root, branches and leaves of Sumac, a plant of the lacquer tree family. The root can be collected at any time, and the branches and leaves are cut in summer when the branches and leaves are in full bloom, cut off and dried.
Sumac is pungent, bitter and cool in nature, with the efficacy of clearing heat and removing toxins, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain, and is often used in the treatment of acute jaundice hepatitis, chronic hepatitis (prolonged hepatitis), hepatitis without jaundice, measles, and dengtoxin (an acute infectious disease in which reddening of the skin is seen as if it had been coated with pigment), and so on. Its adverse reactions and contraindications are not clear.
Chinese medicines should be standardized and applied under the guidance of professional Chinese medicine practitioners for accurate identification, and should not be taken on their own to avoid risks.
