A rustling sound in the ear may be caused by cerumen moving in the ear canal, or it may be a symptom of tinnitus. Commonly, tinnitus is categorized into neurogenic tinnitus, conductive tinnitus, and central tinnitus.
1. Neurogenic tinnitus: clinically more common is sudden deafness accompanied by neurogenic tinnitus. For elderly patients, due to the decline of the auditory nerve, tinnitus may also occur in old age.
2. Conductive tinnitus: some patients may suffer from eustachian tube dysfunction, chronic otitis media, secretory otitis media and other diseases, which may also lead to tinnitus symptoms.
3. Central tinnitus: for some elderly patients, tinnitus symptoms may also be caused by triggering factors such as intracranial blood circulation disorders, cerebral vasospasm and cerebral infarction. Very few cases of tinnitus are related to auditory neuroma, which can only be identified by MRI examination of the skull.
Rustling in the ears may also be caused by earwax irritation of the eardrum, and it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital in time to complete the relevant examinations and carry out targeted treatment after a clear diagnosis.
