What causes multiple follicles?

Multiple follicles are very likely to be polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The cause of PCOS is unknown and may be influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) has a familial clustering, with mothers and sisters with PCOS having a significantly higher risk of developing the disease than the normal population. Intrauterine hyperandrogenism, antiepileptic drugs, over-nutrition and poor lifestyle may increase the risk of PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome is characterized by ovulatory abnormalities, menstrual abnormalities, hyperandrogenism, and metabolic abnormalities associated with insulin resistance, and multiple follicles that may eventually lead to infertility. Women with multiple follicles detected by ultrasound need to go to a regular hospital for timely examination. If diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, she needs to follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
