Whether high thyroid function T4 should matter or not is related to the cause of high T4 and cannot be generalized. Thyroid T4 refers to tetraiodothyronine. High T4 may be caused by diffuse toxic goiter, autonomous high-functioning adenoma of the thyroid gland, and subacute thyroiditis.
1. Diffuse toxic goiter: It is an autoimmune disease that can cause high T4, low TSH and hyperthyroidism. It can be treated by oral anti-thyroid drugs such as methimazole or iodine 131, surgical treatment, etc. If the treatment is standardized in time, it usually does not matter.
If the treatment is not timely and standardized, it may induce thyroid crisis and hyperthyroidism heart disease.
2. Autonomous high-functioning adenoma of thyroid gland: it is mostly due to the uncontrolled secretion of thyroid hormone by the adenoma, which causes high T4, and the patient is mostly accompanied by symptoms of hyperthyroidism such as excessive sweating, irritability, etc. It can be treated by surgery. It can be treated by surgery, and the prognosis is generally good after timely treatment.
3. Subacute thyroiditis: Due to the destruction of the thyroid follicles, the stored thyroid hormones are released into the circulation, which can cause T4, elevated, or hyperthyroidism, and the patient is often accompanied by mild to moderate enlargement of the thyroid gland, localized tenderness and other uncomfortable symptoms. The disease is a self-limiting disease, the general prognosis is good, relatively does not matter.
High thyroid T4 can also be seen in other causes, it is recommended that the patient under the guidance of the doctor to improve further examination, a clear diagnosis.
