How to prevent the new coronavirus

Novel coronavirus is the causative agent of novel coronavirus pneumonia, and there is a lack of effective treatment for the pneumonia it causes. Daily life management focuses on prevention of infection, and good personal protection is the most practical way. Minimize outdoor activities 1. Avoid going to areas where the disease is circulating; 2. It is recommended to reduce visits to friends and relatives and gatherings during the Chinese New Year period, and rest at home as much as possible; 3. Reduce the number of activities in crowded public places, especially those with poor air mobility, such as public baths, hot springs, theaters, cybercafes, KTVs, shopping malls, train stations, airports, piers, exhibition halls, and so on. Personal protection and hand hygiene 1. Wear a mask when going out Wear a medical surgical mask or N95 mask when going out to public places, seeking medical treatment and taking public transportation. 2. Maintain hand hygiene at all times Reduce contact with public objects and parts of public places; wash hands with hand sanitizer or soap under running water after returning from a public place, after coughing and covering hands, and before and after meals, or use alcohol-containing hand sanitizers that are free of soap; avoid touching the mouth, nose, and eyes with the hands when you are not sure if your hands are clean; use elbows and clothes to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Health monitoring and medical treatment 1. Take the initiative to do a good job in monitoring the health of individuals and family members, and take the initiative to measure body temperature when conscious of fever. If there is a child at home, touch the child’s forehead in the morning and evening, and measure his/her temperature if there is fever; 2. If there are suspicious symptoms, take the initiative to put on a mask and seek medical treatment in time. If there are suspicious symptoms of novel coronavirus infection (including fever, cough, sore throat, chest tightness, dyspnea, mild nausea, fatigue, slightly poorer spirit, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, headache, heartburn, conjunctivitis, mild limb or low back muscle pain, etc.), according to the condition, timely access to health care institutions; 3. Avoid taking the subway, buses and other means of transportation to the hospital, and avoid going to crowded places. Avoid going to crowded places. When consulting a doctor, you should take the initiative to tell him/her about your travel and residence history in the area where the disease is prevalent, as well as the people you have come into contact with after the onset of the disease, so as to cooperate with the doctor in carrying out the relevant investigations. Maintain good hygiene and health habits: 1. Open windows and ventilate your room frequently; 2. Do not share towels among family members, keep your home and tableware clean, and dry your clothes and blankets frequently; 3. Do not spit, wrap nasal and oral secretions in tissue paper, and dispose of them in a covered garbage bin; 4. Pay attention to nutrition and exercise moderately; 5. Do not touch, buy or consume wild animals (i.e., wild game). Avoid going to markets where live animals (poultry, seafood, wildlife, etc.) are sold; 6. Keep thermometers, medical surgical masks or N95 masks, household disinfectants and other supplies at home.
