Are uterine cysts serious?

Uterine cysts are cystic tumors that occur in the uterus and are the most common type of benign tumors of the female genitalia, which are generally not life-threatening and not particularly serious. Uterine cysts are mostly due to the proliferation of smooth cells of the uterus, which contain a small amount of fibrous connective tissue, so they are also called uterine smooth muscle tumors. Only a few patients may experience vaginal bleeding, palpable abdominal masses and pressure symptoms. Women with uterine cysts are recommended to have regular review to know the changes of the cysts and if they appear to be significantly larger or very large in number, surgery is needed if necessary. In addition, patients with uterine cysts should usually pay more attention to rest, exercise appropriately and avoid strenuous exercise to avoid rupture of the cysts due to trauma to the abdomen.
