Physiological jaundice of newborns takes about 7 to 9 days to subside, and pathological jaundice takes time to subside depending on the severity of the original disease. 1. Physiological jaundice: at birth, bilirubin production is greater than bilirubin excretion, most full-term newborns will have physiological jaundice. Jaundice appears on the second day after birth in full-term infants, reaches its peak on the fifth day, and subsides in about seven days, not exceeding two weeks at the latest. Jaundice in preterm infants mostly appears on the 3rd day after birth, reaches the peak on the 7th day, subsides in about 9 days, and can be delayed to 3-4 weeks at the longest. 2. Pathologic jaundice: the time to subside depends on the original disease. If it is caused by infection, it has to go through the anti-infection course, and then go through the anti-yellowing treatment. Breastfeeding jaundice, jaundice of the child appears after 1 week of birth, peaks in about 2 weeks, and then declines, and if breastfeeding is continued, it can be prolonged to subside in 4 to 12 weeks. If a newborn develops abnormal jaundice, it is necessary to consult a doctor in time to avoid delaying the condition.
