How to Rehabilitate an Avulsion Fracture of the Ankle

Rehabilitation training for avulsion fracture of ankle includes early rehabilitation, medium-term rehabilitation and final rehabilitation.
1. Early rehabilitation: In the early stage, the patient’s position should be braked, and external fixation such as plaster or brace should be assisted to avoid displacement of the fracture end. In this period, patients can be instructed to move their toes slowly and appropriately; attention should be paid to avoid involving the ankle joint; the intensity of the exercise is low; patients should be instructed to implement straight leg raising training, and at the same time, they should be instructed to carry out knee flexion exercise.
2. Medium-term rehabilitation: the intensity of weight-bearing rehabilitation training should be gradual, placing sandbags on the injured ankle joints, instructing patients to carry out sports rehabilitation, instructing patients to move the ankle joints, requiring the amplitude of movement based on the ankle joints tolerance, controlling the movement of the sandbags, avoiding jittering, and gradually carrying out walking training.
3. Final rehabilitation: gradually carry out gait practice, slowly improve the normal range of motion of the ankle joint, increase the fast walking training in 3 months after the operation, and carry out normal exercise and physical labor in 6 months after the operation; and tell the patients to go to the hospital for rechecking on a regular basis.
Patients with avulsion fracture of the ankle are advised to train under the guidance of a doctor or therapist, do not train on your own to prevent secondary injuries.
