3D Skull Repair

Cranial defects are still relatively common in daily life. Generally, patients develop cranial defects as a result of cranial injury, a more common sequela of patients after injury or surgery. As the brain tissue loses the protection of the normal cranial bone it is easy to be injured twice, while the cranial defect causes various symptoms and affects the appearance, so patients need to have cranial bone repair surgery. The PEEK material is designed based on 3D reconstruction of CT data and is 3D printed to precisely fit the defect area and restore the original craniomaxillofacial appearance, which is excellent in terms of inlay and smoothness, with no protrusion or depression at all, and the 3D printed curvature is completely symmetrical with the opposite side. PEEK uses 3D printing technology to personalize and perfectly shape the patient’s skull defect. It also largely shortens the time and reduces the risk of surgery. If a patient has a recurrence of the disease and needs to open the treatment again, PEEK material can be used twice after high-temperature sterilization, greatly reducing the cost of secondary repair for the patient. although PEEK material has more advantages in skull repair, it has not been widely promoted in China due to various factors.
