HPV58 is a virus that is closely related to cervical cancer, known as human papillomavirus. TCT, which is called cervical fluid-based cytology, is a screening test for cervical cancer by examining cervical cells. If HPV58 is positive and TCT is normal, it is recommended to have regular TCT every year and if TCT is not problematic, cervical treatment is not needed. HPV58 positive and TCT that reveals atypical squamous cells will require cervical biopsy under colposcopy to clarify if there is a cervical lesion. Most women who are HPV58 positive will have the virus cleared up naturally in about 8-24 months. Anti-viral treatment with interferon, or cross-treatment with povidone-based suppositories is also available, but there is no guarantee that this treatment will promote HPV conversion.
