Efficacy and effects of Centella asiatica

The effects of Centella asiatica include clearing heat and removing dampness (removing heat and dampness from the body), invigorating the blood to stop bleeding, detoxifying the toxin and subduing swelling. It can be used for treating fever, cough, sore throat, enteritis, dysentery, jaundice with dampness-heat, edema, gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and astringent pain), blood in urine, epistaxis, dysmenorrhea, menstrual leakage, dengue (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling), tannin (acute infection with reddish skin as if coated with pigment), and scrofula (mainly refers to cervical lymph node nodules tuberculosis), etc. It is also useful in treating cold and deficiency of spleen and stomach. Note that Jiexue Cao should be used with caution for people with deficiency of spleen and stomach (weak and cold spleen and stomach). The efficacy of single herb is limited, clinically it needs to be used with other herbs after identification by a Chinese medicine practitioner.
