What is the pain next to the ear when you open your mouth?

Patients who experience pain next to their ears when opening their mouths may have a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder in front of the ear. This joint disorder may be related to the patient’s recent excessive use of the voice, resulting in excessive movement of the joint, or to the patient’s recent consumption of hard foods, which can cause damage to the joint when chewing with excessive force. Some patients may also have temporomandibular joint disorder in front of the ear due to the recent treatment of the oral and dental parts, which may cause significant changes in the occlusal relationship and biting habits, and furthermore, there may be obvious pain next to the ear when opening the mouth and chewing.
