The most diagnostic signs for hyperthyroidism are its most typical symptoms, including excessive eating, easy hunger, increased frequency of bowel movements or even dilute stools, weight loss, panic attacks, hand tremors, insomnia, excessive dreaming, enlarged thyroid gland, murmurs of thyroid blood vessels that can be heard on auscultation, and protruding eyes with thyroid-related ophthalmopathy. In severe cases, patients with thyroid-related eye disease may have protruding eyes, as well as decreased vision, diplopia, conjunctival edema, and corneal ulcers, and may also have a hyperthyroid heart.
