Huang Jing and Di Huang have different tastes, meridians, effects and functions.
Huang Jing is sweet in taste and neutral in nature, and belongs to the spleen, lung and kidney meridians. It has the effects of tonifying qi and nourishing yin, moistening the lungs, strengthening the spleen and benefiting the kidneys, and is used in the treatment of prolonged coughing or prolonged coughing due to deficiency and labor, thirst, lumbago due to deficiency of the kidneys, lumbar-knee pain, lumbar-knee soreness and tenderness (a feeling of soreness and weakness of the lumbar and knee), insomnia with excessive sleepiness and dreaminess, tinnitus and forgetfulness, loss of hair and premature graying of the beard and hair. Those with spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction and phlegm-dampness congestion are advised to use Huang Jing with caution.
Di Huang is sweet in flavor, cold in nature, and belongs to the heart, liver and kidney meridians. It is effective in clearing heat and cooling blood (relieving blood heat by clearing heat), nourishing yin, and promoting the production of fluids. This drug can be used in febrile diseases with tongue-redness and thirst, internal heat due to yin deficiency, bone-vaporizing labor-heat, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by symptoms such as excessive eating, drinking and urinating), vomiting of blood, epistaxis, and macular eruption and rash. The adverse effects and contraindications of this product are not known.
The use of the two drugs should be under the guidance of a doctor, after the identification and treatment and then standardized use, not self-medication to avoid adverse reactions.
