How to give an enema for intestinal obstruction

One particularly important measure in the conservative management of intestinal obstruction is the enema. The enema has requirements for the patient and also for the enema solution. The patient is placed in the lateral position, and the enema solution is normally soap and water, or in some cases, herbal enemas. The amount of enema fluid is normally 800-1000 mL. 200-300 mL is selected for enema at the beginning and observed to see if there is enema fluid coming out of the anus after the enema. If there is no enema fluid flowing out after the enema, it should be noted that the amount of enema fluid can be increased appropriately. If the enema fluid flows out quickly, it is possible that the obstruction is in the low position and the enema may not be significant. In the high level, enema is selected 2 times/day, which helps to stimulate the recovery of large intestine function, dry stool discharge and relieve the symptoms of intestinal obstruction.
