Spironolactone can be taken once every 1 month to test the blood potassium.
Spironolactone belongs to potassium-preserving diuretics, which generally has little effect on blood potassium when taken for a short period of time. However, if it is taken continuously for more than 30 days, it will easily lead to electrolyte disorders in the body, therefore, it is generally recommended to take the drug for not more than 1 month.
Due to the effect of spironolactone on blood potassium, it is often used in combination with potassium-excreting diuretics such as furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide, etc. However, even with the combined use of these drugs, there is still a certain chance of hyperkalemia, so during the period of taking the drug, it is necessary to avoid a high-potassium diet, and to avoid the simultaneous use of potassium-containing agents or potassium-containing drugs such as potassium penicillin.
In addition to hyperkalemia, spironolactone may also cause gastrointestinal reactions, such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea; the drug can cross the placental barrier, so pregnant women should be cautious when using the drug and try to use it for a short period of time; patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, anuria, hyponatremia and acidosis should use spironolactone with caution.
In the use of medication, must follow the doctor’s instructions, rational application of drugs, do not use drugs, to avoid causing serious side effects and adverse reactions.
