How to check for gastroesophageal reflux in babies

Gastroesophageal reflux in babies mostly has symptoms such as vomiting, acid reflux and heartburn, etc. Combined with the clinical symptoms, we can choose to clarify the condition by performing esophageal manometry, barium esophageal meal imaging, esophageal pH monitoring, isotope scanning and esophageal endoscopy.
1. Esophageal manometry, 24-hour continuous manometry, to evaluate the function of the esophagus and clarify whether there is gastroesophageal reflux.
2. Barium esophagography, which requires fasting for 3~4 hours before the examination, to clarify the condition by observing the reflux after eating barium in divided doses.
3. Esophageal pH monitoring, diagnosing GERD by monitoring the pH value of the lower esophagus is the preferred diagnostic method with sensitivity and high specificity.
4. Isotope scanning, let the child swallow the nuclear Tc calibration solution, observe the function of the esophagus in a quiet state, to understand the situation of gastric emptying and esophageal clearance.
5. Esophageal endoscopy, through endoscopy, combined with pathological examination, can clarify the degree of esophagitis, is the most appropriate examination method.
If you find symptoms of GERD in your baby, it is recommended to consult a doctor promptly.
