Why is exercise important in cerebral palsy rehabilitation?

For children with cerebral palsy, it is important to pay attention to the important role of movement in the rehabilitation process. As we know, cerebral palsy is one of the most prevalent and dangerous diseases in infancy and early childhood, and the treatment methods for cerebral palsy include surgery, Chinese medicine and rehabilitation training, among which the motor therapy in rehabilitation training has a special value and is very significant for the rehabilitation of cerebral palsy patients. The fundamental purpose of rehabilitation training for children with cerebral palsy is to promote normal physical and mental development, that is, to promote normal movement, postural development and control pathological abnormalities through various therapies such as motor function training, so that motor training is the core of rehabilitation. The motor therapy mentioned in cerebral palsy rehabilitation is a general term for the treatment methods to improve motor disorders through active movement and passive movement, and the main contents include joint mobility training, muscle strength enhancement training, posture correction training and neurophysiological therapy. In normal infants, with the development of the brain, the development of motor coordination is promoted through various stimuli, and head lifting, sitting, rolling over, crawling, standing, and walking are completed at a certain age; whereas infants with cerebral palsy are prevented from completing these movements normally due to damage to the brain. The movement therapy that we use is to overcome those abnormal postures and movements through passive stimulation – rehabilitation training, and to foster their normal movement development. To put it simply, the core of the therapy is to teach the child how to move the body, hands and feet. This is why some scholars also call it overcoming training. In addition, there are three other things that children with cerebral palsy and their parents need to remember when performing motor therapy during the rehabilitation process so that it can better aid in recovery: 1. Motor therapy starts as early as possible, even from the newborn, the earlier the better. 2. Continuous and comprehensive exercise therapy under medical control. 3.From infancy to adulthood should be placed in the community rehabilitation, should be active as a member of the society, encourage their self-reliance, self-improvement and self-confidence to participate in social activities.
