A smooth surface of a colon polyp is good and is a common colon polyp feature, indicating that the colon polyp may be a benign polyp without a specific lesion. If the surface of the colon polyp is congested, the polyp is associated with inflammation. If the surface of the polyp is cauliflower-like, it is possible that cancer has occurred and needs to be taken seriously. In addition, bleeding may occur when polyps become eroded. Regardless of the type of polyp, if the patient has a definite colon polyp, it is recommended that the patient undergoes electrocoagulation and electrodessication of the polyp under the supervision of a physician, which is a minimally invasive procedure to remove the polyp and send it for a pathologic biopsy. Inflammatory polyps are almost never cancerous, while adenomatous polyps have a higher risk of becoming cancerous, so it is important for patients to cooperate with their doctors in their treatment.
